The Nordic joint project Nordic DigiGov Lab wins award in a European innovation competition

The Nordic DigiGov Lab project, a joint initiative of the Nordic digitalisation agencies, has received an award in the European Public Sector Award (EPSA) competition. The recognition highlights the project’s importance in developing digital public services and strengthening Nordic cooperation.

What is the European Public Sector Award (EPSA)?

The European Public Sector Award (EPSA) is a competition that brings together the best reforms and development projects in the European public sector. Its aim is to improve public services and share effective solutions between countries.

Since 2009, more than 1,600 projects from across Europe have participated. Participants have included EU institutions, public authorities and international organisations.

Nordic DigiGov Lab recognised in the evaluation

The Nordic DigiGov Lab project, a joint initiative of the digitalisation agencies of Finland, Sweden and Norway, stood out in the evaluation particularly for its:

• high-quality implementation
• impact on public sector reform
• innovative solutions

Projects were assessed by independent experts, and Nordic DigiGov Lab was selected among the award recipients at the evaluation meeting held on 12 May 2026.

Cooperation and new solutions

The EPSA programme promotes European cooperation and encourages organisations to develop their operations. Its objectives are to:

• identify new solutions to public sector challenges
• increase cooperation between organisations
• share best practices between countries

The awards will be presented on 23–25 September 2026 in Maastricht. The event will bring together public administration actors from across Europe.

What is Nordic DigiGov Lab?

Nordic DigiGov Lab is a project funded by the Nordic Council of Ministers. It is led by Sweden’s Digg in cooperation with Norway’s DigDir and the Finnish Digital Agency (DVV).

The project develops human-centric digital public services. Its aim is to make it easier for people to interact with authorities in different life situations – also across national borders.

The project has, for example, developed:

• the use of artificial intelligence in public services
• automation of information exchange between authorities in different countries
