Check and verify the email address you have entered in Suomi.fi Messages

Electronic messages received in Suomi.fi Messages are increasingly the primary way to receive important decisions and notifications from the authorities. We now ask the users of the service to check and confirm verify the email address they have saved in Suomi.fi Messages.

This helps to ensure that notifications of new messages received in Suomi.fi Messages are sent to the correct e-mail address and reach the recipient.

How do I know that I need to verify my email address?

If a longer time has passed since you added or edited your email address, you will be asked to confirm verify the address the next time you go to Suomi.fi Messages. 
You must verify your email address if you see a banner prompting you to do so in Suomi.fi Messages.

To verify the email address, do as follows:

  1. From the banner, go to verifying your email address.
  2. You will receive a numeric code in the email address you have entered in Suomi.fi Messages.
  3. Enter the code in the field provided in Suomi.fi Messages.
  4. Your email address is verified.

If your email address is no longer valid

If you no longer use the email address saved in Suomi.fi Messages that is displayed in the banner:

  1. Go to the Settings of Suomi.fi Messages.
  2. Replace the email address with a new one.
  3. Verify the new address with the numeric code that is sent to your new email address.

Why is it important to verify your email address?

Please remember to verify your email address as soon as possible. If you do not verify your email address, you may not receive notifications that an important message from an authority has arrived for you.

Also remember to update your email address in Suomi.fi Messages whenever your email address changes.

From now on, whenever you update your email address or reactivate Suomi.fi Messages, you will always be asked to verify the notification email address. 

Why are we making this change?

The purpose of the change is to improve the data protection of Suomi.fi Messages because it ensures that

  • all persons have the correct email address in Suomi.fi Messages to receive notifications of incoming messages
  • email addresses in use are confirmed to work
