5.5.2026 | The Digital and Population Data Services Agency will revoke signature certificates using ECC technology from identity cards issued between 11 January 2021 and 12 March 2023. The certificates will be revoked in a mass revocation during May. If necessary, the issuance date of the identity card can be checked on the surface of the card.

7.5.2026 | The Guardianship e-service maintained by the Digital and Population Data Services Agency has new features that will streamline the duties of a guardian and an attorney. Now it’s possible to apply in the e-service for the appointment of a substitute guardian, the appointment of a guardian to the duties of an attorney, and the appointment of a guardian to replace a minor’s guardian in a child maintenance matter.

5.5.2026 | The Suomi.fi Web Service contains information on public services in Skolt, Inari and Northern Sámi. Suomi.fi also helps Sámi speakers find public services available in their language. Suomi.fi Messages is also now available in the three Sámi languages.

30.4.2026 | Legislation on guardianship and continuing power of attorney will be amended on 1 May 2026 as the amendments to the Acts on guardianship services and continuing power of attorney enter into force. The amendments will reduce permit regulation and streamline the activities of guardians and persons granted continuing power of attorney. The Digital and Population Data Services Agency will implement changes in its services in accordance with legislation.

29.4.2026 | The number of Suomi.fi Messages users has increased by more than 800 000 users in two weeks. At the moment, 3.5 million people already use Suomi.fi Messages. This is due to a legislative amendment that entered into force in mid-April. As a result, users of the authorities’ digital services have been guided to activate Suomi.fi Messages when they identify themself in an authority’s e-service.

13.2.2026 | The Citizen Certificate on the Finnish identity card can now be used to securely identify oneself for example in the digital services of Estonia and Sweden. Later, it will also be possible to use the Citizen Certificate for identification in the services of the other EU countries. 

17.12.2025 | Automatic exchange of migration data for people who move between Finland and Estonia began on 2 December 2025. When someone moves to the other country, the country of entry reports this to the country of origin, who then registers them as an emigrant. This marks their address and municipality of residence as expired in the country of origin.
