Family relationships and Marital Status

We require official certificates from you in order to record your marital status and family relationships, such as parenthood or marriage. Without these certificates, we will not record this information. The certificate must be an original or a reliably certified copy. In addition, the certificate may need to be legalized and translated.

Do the following

  1. Check if the document must be legalised and/or translated.

  2. Deliver the documents and filled out form to us.

    Deliver the documents and filled out form by post or by bringing them to our service location.

    Submitting the documents by post: Send the form and documents to Digital and Population Data Services Agency, PL 1003, 00531 HELSINKI, FINLAND.

    If you have also requested a Finnish personal identity code at same time, you have to visit our service location. Take with you personal identification documents and all the documents of your family relationships or marital status.

  3. ​​​​​​​We will contact you if we need more information.

    Check that all your details have been entered correctly.

    If the information you have provided cannot be entered in the Population Information System, we will send you a decision on the case. Instructions for submitting a request for administrative review are attached to the decision.
