Privacy statement for the Register of an Agreement on the Expiration of Marital Rights to Property
The Digital and Population Data Services Agency maintains a Register of an Agreement on the Expiration of Marital Rights to Property, in which data on agreements concerning the expiry of marital rights are stored. The purpose of the register is to enforce the legal effects of the documents and make the information public.
The disclosure of information from the register is subject to the Act on the Openness of Government Activities. However, everyone has the right to receive a copy or a printout of the registered information concerning a certain person.
This register may contain your data if you have registered an agreement on the expiry of marital rights after your marriage has ended.

The purpose of processing data in the Register of an Agreement on the Expiration of Marital Rights to Property is to enforce the legal effects related to the filing for registration or the registration of legal actions between private individuals and to make the information public. Storing the data in the Register of an Agreement on the Expiration of Marital Rights to Property is a statutory obligation of the Digital and Population Data Services Agency. The obligation is based on the Act on Certain Personal Registers of the Digital and Population Data Services Agency.
The majority of the data is stored permanently (Act on Certain Personal Registers of the Digital and Population Data Services Agency).
The following data are stored in the register:
- the names and personal identification numbers of the spouses, or, in the absence of a personal identification number, the date of birth;
- the date of the agreement;
- the name of the registry authority, the document’s registration date and the case identification data.
- information on expiry date of marital rights.
Additionally, data obtained from the population information system on changes to the spouses' names are stored in the register.
The information is obtained from private citizens on the basis of the registration option provided for by law. A notification to the Register of an Agreement on the Expiration of Marital Rights to Property may be submitted by a spouse or a stakeholder in an estate. Information on changes to the spouses’ names is received from the population information system.
Register information is public. Currently, data are not disclosed on a regular basis.
No personal data are transferred outside the EU or the EEA or to international organisations.
No personal data are used for automated decision-making.
Right to inspect
You have the right to access your personal data and inspect their content. You can request your data by sending an access request to the Registry Office of the Digital and Population Data Services Agency. Be prepared to provide proof of identity.
Right of revision
You have the right to correct your personal data if you notice that it contains inaccurate or incorrect information. Please submit your request in writing to the register’s contact person, or submit a request for correction to the Registry Office of the Digital and Population Data Services Agency. In your request, please specify which information should be corrected as well as the specific changes or additions to be made. Be prepared to provide proof of identity.
Limitations to the rights of the data subject
Most of the services provided by the Digital and Population Data Services Agency are based on compliance with the controller’s statutory obligation, on the performance of a duty of public interest or the exercise of public authority. In such cases, you do not have a right to demand that your personal data should be deleted or transferred to another system. Moreover, as a rule, you do not have a right to object to the processing of your personal data.
If you believe that your personal data is being processed unlawfully, you can submit a complaint to the Office of the Data Protection Ombudsman.
