Suomi.fi now provides information on public services in Skolt, Inari and Northern Sámi
The Suomi.fi Web Service contains information on public services in Skolt, Inari and Northern Sámi. Suomi.fi also helps Sámi speakers find public services available in their language. Suomi.fi Messages is also now available in the three Sámi languages.
Suomi.fi also provides information on services in Sámi languages
Suomi.fi contains information on roughly 180 public services available in Sámi. In addition, the website has information on the services available in the Sámi languages provided by the Digital and Population Data Services Agency, the Economic Development Centre, Kela and the wellbeing services county of Lapland.
The aim is to encourage more and more organisations to publish information on their services in the Sámi languages at Suomi.fi so that information on important services can be found conveniently in one place. In addition, the aim is to compile information on services provided in different Sámi languages to make it easier for Sámi speakers to find services available in their own language.
Suomi.fi Messages is also available in Sámi languages
Instructions in Skolt, Inari and Northern Sámi for using Suomi.fi Messages have already been available for a year. Now, the Suomi.fi Messages service itself is also available in these three Sámi languages. Later in the spring, users will be able to activate Suomi.fi Messages in Sámi languages.
“Suomi.fi Messages is initially available in Skolt, Inari and Northern Sámi only through the Suomi.fi Web Service. Later, the intention is to make the Suomi.fi mobile application available in the Sámi languages and to offer Sámi speakers the opportunity to receive e-mail notifications from Suomi.fi Messages in their language,” explains Maria Juka-Lahdenperä, Service Owner of Suomi.fi Messages from the Digital and Population Data Services Agency.
Public authorities can also send Suomi.fi Messages in Sámi.
Cooperation supports the development of Sámi-language services
The Sámi-language service catalogue has been developed in cooperation with the Digital and Population Data Services Agency, the Sámi Parliament and the Mii ovttas network. Its aim is to make it easier for Sámi speakers to find services available in their language and seek information about public services in Sámi.
“The Sámi Parliament welcomes this cooperation with the Digital and Population Data Services Agency. This development improves the visibility of Sámi-language services and actually creates new Sámi-language digital services,” says Tuomas Aslak Juuso, Acting President of the Sámi Parliament.
Suomi.fi is a web service maintained by the Digital and Population Data Services Agency that helps and guides citizens and companies in handling everyday matters with public authorities and public utility organisations.
“Suomi.fi helps Sámi speakers find public services in their own language. We encourage all public authorities to publish information on their existing Sámi-language services at Suomi.fi. Naturally, we also hope that public authorities will develop even more services in different Sámi languages,” says Nina West, Specialist at the Digital and Population Data Services Agency.
