Scam messages being sent in the name of Suomi.fi Messages – do not click on the link in the message

Scam messages are being sent disguised as Suomi.fi Messages. The messages urge recipients to open a document behind a button or link in the message.

The link goes to a website which resembles the Suomi.fi online service but is maintained by criminals. The website is a phishing site for the purpose of getting personal data and log-in information, such as banking codes.

Suomi.fi Messages never sends links by e-mail or by text message

Those with access to Suomi.fi Messages are notified about messages from public administration to the Messages service by e-mail or through the Suomi.fi mobile application. 

Messages in Suomi.fi Messages never contain links, and they never ask to download documents or to provide personal information. Suomi.fi Messages never sends notifications by text message.

If you have received a message, 

  • Do not click on links in the message.
  • Do not reply to the message.
  • Do not give your information on a web page that you have reached through a link that came by e-mail.
  • If you suspect that your credit card information or bank codes have fallen into the wrong hands, contact your bank's customer service. File a criminal complaint.

The Digital and Population Data Services Agency, which maintains the Suomi.fi Web service, is investigating the case in cooperation with security officials. 

How to use Suomi.fi Messages safely

If you have access to Suomi.fi Messages, 

  • write the URL https://www.suomi.fi, in the address bar, and you will be able to log in to the Messages service, or download the Suomi.fi application onto your mobile device from Google Play or App Store 
  • never use a message that has come by e-mail or text message to go to a website. 
  • do not go to Suomi.fi Messages using a search engine results page  

Suomi.fi Messages is a data-safe way to receive messages from various officials. Signing on to the Messages service takes place using an online banking code, mobile ID, or the Citizen Certificate on an ID card.  

A person who uses the service gets messages regularly on the public service e-Services that use Suomi.fi Messages. When this happens, the messages are no longer delivered by standard mail.  For example, it is possible to receive electronic messages from the Finnish Tax Administration, Traficom, and many municipalities.
