Moving between the Nordic countries
Notify your move in accordance with the instructions on this page when moving from one Nordic country to Finland or from Finland to another Nordic country.
When you move from another Nordic country to Finland
If you aim to live in Finland for at most six months, you do not have to notify it to the Finnish authorities.
If you intend to live in Finland for more than six months, you must visit our service location personally so that we can register you. Bring a valid identity card showing your nationality, such as a passport. Register as soon as possible but no later than one month after moving to Finland.
Anyone moving from another Nordic country must visit our service location personally and prove their identity. For example, you cannot make registration on behalf of your children.
1. Book an appointment for our service location by electronic booking
2. Submit a notification of move.
- You can submit a notification of move in the joint online service of us and Posti. To identify yourself, you need Finnish online banking codes or a mobile certificate.
- You can also submit a notification of move using a paper form, which you can have from Posti or our service location. The form cannot be completed electronically or printed from anywhere.
3. Include a valid identity card and a notification of move in paper form if you have not notified the move electronically. Please note that anyone moving with you must come personally to our service location and prove their identity.
Please provide us with your personal identity code or personal number used in another Nordic country. This way, your personal data will be transferred electronically from the register authority of the country of origin to us. At the same time, we can inform the register authority of the country of origin that you have moved to Finland.
Notify your move in accordance with the instructions on page “Foreigner’s move to Finland, in Finland and out of Finland” when moving from a Nordic country.

Frequently asked questions
The treaty concluded between the Nordic countries requires that a person moving from one Nordic country to another act in person with the registration authority of the country of arrival, i.e. in Finland, the Digital and Population Data Services Agency. We are bound by this agreement and we cannot make an exception, for example for Finnish citizens.
The country to which you moved can decide how it registers your move. For example, Denmark often registers temporary moves as permanent. If you wish to correct an incorrectly registered move in another Nordic country, contact your local register authority.
