Does your organisation use Suomi.fi Messages? Migration to Suomi.fi Messages REST API must be carried out during 2026
All organisations using Suomi.fi Messages must change over to using the Suomi.fi Messages REST API by 2026 at the latest. The use of other Suomi.fi Messages APIs (WS, SMTP, SFTP) will be discontinued. Connections to them can no longer be made and migration from them to the REST API must be carried out by 31 December 2026.
If your organisation is about to start using Suomi.fi Messages at the end of 2025, the connection must be made directly to the REST API. This way, you will not need to change the connection straight away in 2026.
The REST API is the main API for Suomi.fi Messages. It provides you with access to all functionalities of Suomi.fi Messages. The implementation of the API is technically modern, and integration with it is quick and simple. In addition, the REST API enables better reliability, fault tolerance and performance of Suomi.fi Messages than the old APIs.
Migration schedule for the REST API
| When | What |
| Starting from 1 January 2026 | All new connections to Suomi.fi Messages will be made to the REST APi |
| On 1 January 2027 | The old APIs will be shut down. Each organisation using Suomi.fi Messages must be using the new REST interface |
Note these if your organisation still uses Suomi.fi Messages with WS, SFTP or SMTP APIs
The migration to the REST API requires organisations using Suomi.fi Messages with WS, SFTP or SMTP APIs to take measures.
The required measures and their extent depend on
- which API the organisation is using,
- what the API has been used for, and
- how the API was implemented.
If you use Suomi.fi Messages through a system provided by a system supplier, please ensure:
- that the system has support for sending messages through the REST API
- that the system will change over to using the REST API during 2026 at the latest
We have published a blog post to support organisations that use Suomi.fi Messages and intermediaries that have integrated Messages into their software services. In the post, we explain what the migration to REST means for users of the other APIs and what they need to take into account in connection with the migration.
Instructions for migration to the REST API
The instructions for migrating from the old Suomi.fi Messages APIs (WS, SFTP) to the new REST API are largely the same as those for the deployment of a new service.
Summary of the steps of REST API deployment:
- Return the service information form → You will receive identifiers for the test environment.
- Test the connection → For example, make sure that the overall process meets your requirements.
- Return the checklist -> You will receive the IDs for the production environment.
- Migrate to the REST API.
