Suomi.fi Messages available for estates of deceased persons
Suomi.fi Messages will include a new, efficient way for public administration to reach the members of an estate digitally when the new register of estate shareholders is introduced in 2027.
From the beginning of 2026, official mail will mainly be delivered digitally to everyone who uses electronic services. This means that Suomi.fi Messages will have a reach of up to four million recipients.
Digital messaging – better and more efficient service for estate shareholders
Many organisations do not currently have a way to reach the shareholders of an estate. Doing so becomes possible with this change. Through Suomi.fi Messages, an organisation can send instructions, information and decisions to the estate’s shareholders – or only the estate administrator, trustee or other limited group.
To receive messages, the recipient must have a Finnish personal identity code and a strong identification token. If the organisation uses the printing, enveloping and distribution service (PED), it will also be able to reach the shareholders who have not activated Suomi.fi Messages by paper mail.
The organisation may also allow the recipient to reply to the message in Suomi.fi Messages.
Smoother transactions – better customer experience
Suomi.fi Messages makes message delivery faster, streamlines processes and improves the customer experience. It includes versatile opportunities to improve the efficiency of the organisation’s transaction processes.
The service allows your organisation to:
- send read-receipts and advance information on future measures and deadlines
- deliver decisions and notifications, invoices, payments and receipts
- request additional information or confirmation
- remind the recipient of the necessary actions.
It is possible to use the current REST API to reach an estate – also when messaging the estate’s shareholders – that is, if the organisation has already activated the service, no changes are needed.
Suomi.fi Messages is available to all public administration organisations and organisations that carry out a public task.
