Estates can use Suomi.fi e-Authorizations to act and grant to authorizations in 2027 – excellent opportunity to make using the services easier
Service providers will be able to streamline their services for estates with an integration of Suomi.fi e-Authorizations in their electronic service. Doing so will allow the electronic service to reliably and safely check whether a user is entitled to act on behalf of the estate.
A service provider can even allow the shareholders of an estate to use its electronic services automatically based on the user’s role without a separate authorization. Alternatively, the service provider can also require an authorization from all shareholders of an estate.
Electronic services that use Suomi.fi e-Authorizations make it easy to manage the affairs of an estate. Suomi.fi e-Authorizations checks a user's right to use services from the register of estate shareholders – safely, reliably and in real time.
How does Suomi.fi e-Authorizations check the right to use services?
There are two ways Suomi.fi e-Authorizations checks a person’s right to act on behalf of someone else:
1. Based on a register (role)
Primarily, acting on behalf of another person through e-Authorizations is based on data in official registers that are maintained by the authorities. This makes automatic and real-time checks possible. For example, guardians, trustees or attorneys can act directly without a separate authorization.
2. Based on a mandate
Individuals can also independently grant mandates to persons or organisations to act on their behalf through Suomi.fi e-Authorizations. It is also possible to submit a mandate request in Suomi.fi e-Authorizations to a person whose affairs you want to manage.
If someone is unable to grant a mandate on their in the web service because they do not have the digital skills or tools, they can submit a signed mandate application to the Digital and Population Data Services Agency.
Shareholders of an estate can act and grant mandates
With Suomi.fi e-Authorizations, a service provider can offer a safe and reliable service experience for estates – without the hassle of manual paperwork and powers of attorney. Depending on the service situation,
- A shareholder can act based on their role in the register of estate shareholders.
- The shareholders of an estate may, for example, authorize an individual or a law firm to manage matters on their behalf in services that use Suomi.fi e-Authorizations.
More details of acting on behalf of an estate are currently on the project's drawing board. You will hear more about them in upcoming stakeholder webinars and newsletters.
