The population of Finland

Information about the population of Finland is updated every morning on the Population Register Centre website. The figure is based on the latest information registered by the Population Information System, sourced the night before at 12.00 midnight.

The official population of Finland is counted from the Population Information System on the basis of the situation at the turn of the year. In addition to Finland’s population, statistical figures published by the Population Register Centre include the number of residents in Finnish municipalities (as found in the register each month). The Population Information System contains information about Finnish citizens and foreign citizens residing permanently in Finland.
