The Digital and Population Data Services Agency will start offering customer service remotely in September in Hämeenlinna, Kajaani, Kokkola, Kouvola and Seinäjoki. The remote service will make it possible to receive personal advice and guidance even when the customer and the customer adviser are in different cities.

The Digital and Population Data Services Agency has provided remote service in Mikkeli since 1 July 2025 at a service point of the City of Mikkeli. Now, the remote service is being extended to five new cities: Hämeenlinna, Kajaani, Kokkola, Kouvola and Seinäjoki. In these locations, the Digital and Population Data Services Agency will offer remote service at the Tax Administration’s offices on one day per week by appointment.

The Digital and Population Data Services Agency will still provide in-person services as usual at its service locations until 30 November. After that the agency will switch to only offering remote service in these six cities. The reason for the change is the regional distribution of service needs and central government savings.

In remote service, the customer and the customer adviser meet via video connection

If necessary, the customer can be scheduled for remote service via telephone services when the customer needs personal advice or guidance. In practice, remote service means that the customer comes to the service point and establishes a video connection to an expert from the Digital and Population Data Services Agency. The remote service is free of charge and is only available by appointment. In Mikkeli, you can also book an appointment by visiting the city's service point.

The remote service will make it possible to receive personal advice and guidance. You cannot print or scan forms or documents at the service point. You also cannot submit any forms or documents at the service point.

Few things require a visit to the agency

The Digital and Population Data Services Agency provides services nationwide, mainly online or by telephone. Only certain things require a visit to Agency’s service locations. The services that require a visit in person are marriage, certain services of the notary public, and the registration of foreigners. You may visit and book an appointment to the most suitable service location for you, regardless of where you live. Appointments must be booked in advance. Service locations are mainly open to those who have made an appointment. The opening hours of service locations are available at dvv.fi on the service location pages.

Agency participates in the development of a joint remote service

The Digital and Population Data Services Agency is additionally participating in the development of remote services together with other authorities. The authorities’ joint remote service concept will be piloted from September 2025 to February 2026 at Suomi-piste service point in Imatra, Nurmes and Porvoo together with the Police, Kela and the Tax Administration. The pilot carried out in these three cities is part of the project reforming the state service and facility network in the 2020s.
