International student – don’t miss out on our registration events

The Digital and Population Data Services Agency (DVV) is once again organising targeted registration events for new international students around Finland. The events are mainly organised in cooperation with higher education institutions.

Registration events are worth it – streamlining students’ access to services by the Digital and Population Data Services Agency

The Digital and Population Data Services Agency provides its services by appointment. This is also the case when applying for a personal identity code or municipality of residence. However, one exception are international higher education students whose first option should be to attend a registration event organised by the Digital and Population Data Services Agency and a higher education institution. Information on registration events is primarily available from the higher education institutions. In addition, registration events are announced on the Digital and Population Data Services Agency service location pages.  

Without a booked appointment, the Digital and Population Data Services Agency’s customer service can provide advice and receive documents.  

Registration process of an international student 

1. The student finds out the time of the registration event of their higher education institution for identification. If no registration event is organised, the student books an appointment with the Digital and Population Data Services Agency (dvv.fi/reservation).
   
   Students’ family members must always book an appointment at a service location of the Digital and Population Data Services Agency. 
    
2. The student fills in the registration request that is appropriate for their situation on the Digital and Population Data Services Agency’s website dvv.fi. Required attachments are a travel document, study certificate and possible residence permit. 
    
3. The student either comes to a registration event or books an appointment for identification for the application they submitted to the Digital and Population Data Services Agency. 
    
4. The Digital and Population Data Services Agency processes the matter and notifies the student of the completion of the registration.
