Prepare for threats in the digital world with risk management – new guide to help organisations develop digital security
Our digital environment is changing constantly. According to the Digital and Population Data Services Agency’s recent Digital Security Survey, Finnish citizens’ trust in the security of digital services and devices has continued to decline. Problems like cybercrime and scams undermine Finns’ trust in the digital world.
Cyber and digital security threats such as ransomware and data leaks threaten organisations of different sizes in all areas of society. Cybercrime also carries considerable financial cost.
In October, the Digital and Population Data Services Agency is publishing a guide for organisations on digital security risk management. The guide contains sections on risk management, safety and security management, preparedness and continuity management, information security and data protection.
“Preparing for threats and risks is worth it because a realised risk may result in significant financial, human and reputational harm”, explains the author of the guide, senior specialist Tapani Rinne from the Digital and Population Data Services Agency.
Topical and comprehensive guide with good practices for managing cyber risks and digital security risks
The Digital security risk management guide produced by the Digital and Population Data Services Agency is a response to the demand for information on cyber and digital security risk management; it offers information and good practices to support risk management.
“There is high demand for information on how to manage cyber and digital security risks, and the guide advises organisations not only on preparedness but also on risk communication, which is one of the most important areas of risk management”, explains Tapani Rinne.
The guide is primarily aimed at the leadership and experts of small and medium-sized organisations in public administration who encounter and address digital security issues in their work. Still, the guide is useful for anyone interested in cyber and digital security and related risk management.
The guide is clear, easy to use and contains separate sections for leadership, experts and other personnel. Swedish and English versions of the guide will also be published in October. Anyone can use the guide free of charge.
The Digital security risk management guide has been produced in cooperation with specialists from VAHTI, a network focused on developing digital security. Digital security specialists interested in the topic can join the activities of the network by reaching out. The Digital and Population Data Services Agency is responsible for VAHTI operations.
Webinar 30.10.2024
The risk management guide will be presented at the launch event of the Suomi.fi for Service Developers website on 30 October 2024. The webinar will be held in Finnish.
Suomi.fi guides offer advice to citizens and organisations
The popular Suomi.fi guides produced by the Digital and Population Data Services Agency are read monthly by hundreds of thousands of people, and that number is only going up.
The Digital and Population Data Services Agency works in extensive cooperation with other authorities and organisations to ensure that the guides offer information as comprehensively as possible on topics that concern many people. The guides have clear instructions for different life events and information on regional and national services. The guides advise readers on how to handle matters independently, which reduces the need to contact authorities or other services.
Previous guides published on the Suomi.fi website include guidance for citizens on life events, for companies on business situations and for public administration on matters related to developing digital services and digitalisation. Last year, the guide Using AI responsibly was also published on the Suomi.fi website.
