Make your everyday life easier and activate Suomi.fi Messages! Get many important messages easily in one place
For many of us, everyday life is busy: work, children's hobbies, household chores and personal activities. In the midst of all the hustle and bustle, things that arrive on paper are easily lost. By the time you remember, you may be at your cottage while the important paper is still at home.
Receiving official mail digitally in Suomi.fi Messages gives you a little more control over the chaos of everyday life. Your important mail is available everywhere and is easy to find.
Thanks to Suomi.fi Messages, many important things sent by the authorities will now arrive in one place – without sitting outside in your mailbox or getting buried in piles of paper at home.
We have listed three reasons why activating Suomi.fi Messages is a good idea:
1. Save time and effort
- You no longer have to wait for a paper letter as electronic messages are delivered instantly.
- Important official matters are dealt with more quickly and you can move things forward right away.
2. Important documents are always at your fingertips
- Important mail can reach you wherever you are: at the cottage, on holiday, in hospital or even abroad. No more worrying about an important letter waiting at home.
- Incoming messages don't get lost in messy piles of paper at your home – or get chewed up by your dog!
- No need to trudge to the mailbox in the freezing cold every day – important messages can be read straight from your phone while you relax on the sofa.
3. Security and privacy
- As a recipient of digital mail, your privacy is preserved because digital mail can only be viewed by its recipient. Logging into Suomi.fi Messages require strong identification, so only you can see your messages – so no nosy family member, mother-in-law or neighbour can check through your piles of letters and see which authorities have sent you mail.
- Important letters will not accidentally end up in the bin between advertising leaflets or fall into a snowdrift as you are walking back from your mailbox.
- If you wish, you can also authorise a loved one to read messages for you – safely and securely.
A small easy change that brings relief to everyday life

Mail from public authorities will soon be delivered digitally
In 2026, Finland will see a major change when mail sent by public authorities goes digital.
According to a legislative proposal going through Parliament, from the beginning of 2026 you can use Suomi.fi Messages when logging in to the e-services of authorities.
You will then receive mail electronically from the authorities in Suomi.fi Messages instead of letters on paper. Incoming messages may include decisions, information on appointments, invoices and requests for additional information.
The change does not apply to persons who do not use digital services. It also does not apply to minors, companies or to persons under guardianship or with a confirmed continuing power of attorney. They will continue to receive the post sent by authorities primarily as paper mail.
