Appointment of a guardian
Some matters are decided by the District Court after we have processed them. Below you can see the processing time at the Digital and Population Data Services Agency. If the matter proceeds to the District Court, the processing time will be extended by the court’s processing time.
- Application for the appointment of a guardian: 4–5 months.
When a person applies to have a guardian appointed for themselves, the matter is usually decided by us at the Digital and Population Data Services Agency. - Notification of a person in need of guardianship: 4–5 months + District Court’s processing time.
When we receive a notification and consider guardianship necessary, we submit an application to the District Court. - Other matters concerning the appointment of a guardian: 4–5 months + possible District Court processing time.

Please note that the annual statement for 2025 must be completed on time, i.e. no later than 31 March 2026, even if you have not yet received the audited statement for the previous year. You can submit the annual statement and its attachments most easily using the Guardianship e-service.
