Notifying a child’s preferred name
As the child’s guardian, you can submit the child’s preferred name using the online form.
Consents
- The notification requires written consent from all the child’s guardians.
- You also need the child’s own written consent if
- you submit the notification on behalf of a child who is 15 years or older
- you submit the preferred name on behalf of a child who is 10 years or older.
A person who has turned 15
Once you have turned 15, you can submit the information yourself on the Personal Data page in Suomi.fi if you have your own strong authentication tool (such as online banking credentials).
Preferred name
- You can enter one of the forenames recorded in the Population Information System as the child’s preferred name.
- If the preferred name is already the child’s first name, you do not need to enter it as the preferred name.
- Please note that a nickname cannot be entered as a preferred name.
